Why Regular Site Inspections Matter More Than Most Homeowners Realise

Recently, during one of our routine site inspections, we picked up an issue around a window opening. The window reveal was protruding too far, approximately an inch, when it should have been sitting closer to 10mm.

At first glance, this might seem like a minor detail. In reality, it has a direct impact on how the wall lining and finishes come together.

Why Window Reveals Need to Be Accurate

When plasterboard, or gyprock, is installed, it needs sufficient space to sit neatly against the window reveal. In this case, the reveal should have allowed for:

• 10mm plasterboard

• Architraves to be installed correctly

• A clean and professional finish around the window

  
  

Because the reveal was extending too far, the plasterboard and architraves would not have aligned as intended. If left uncorrected, this could have resulted in visible finishing issues that would be noticeable long after construction was complete.

The Importance of Catching Issues Early

One of the biggest advantages of regular site inspections is that problems are often identified before they affect other trades.

In this situation, the issue was picked up before the plasterboard installation stage. That means the carpenter can make the necessary adjustment now, avoiding delays, rework, and additional costs later.

A small correction today prevents a much larger problem tomorrow.
